Kenyan innovation bags top African hardware competition award
Three Kenyan-based innovations scooped this year’s Africa regional ASME Innovation Showcase(IShow) awards held yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya. Bentos Fuels, emerged overall winners after impressing the judges with their innovative recycling process using harvested water hyacinth-an invasive plant species, and mixing it with paper sludge and charred waste biomass to produce smokeless charcoal briquettes. ISHOW Africa awards recognises social-minded inventors from Africa developing “hardware with a social purpose”.

At the fourth edition of the Nairobi Innovation Week, innovators drawn from different parts of the world are exhibiting inventions that are not only impressive but are also offering solutions to the society.

Nairobi Innovation Week partnered with the Africa Development Bank  for a special category (the AFDB High 5) which included:Light and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa and Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa. 

Bentos energy emerged was recognized in the category for improving the quality of lives in Africa.
